The Practical Psychic Self-Defense Handbook by Robert Bruce

Practical Psychic Self-Defense Handbook by Robert Bruce - New Age - Spiritual

May as well start off with some “light” reading by none other than the prolific author of Astral Dynamics, Robert Bruce.  I suppose I should at least say what prompted me to pick this book up and have a look at it.  For the better part of the last decade I have been extremely lax with any sort of spiritual practice.  I’ve hardly meditated.  I barely stretch.  No Tai Chi.  And even the reading of headie books has become sporadic at best.

So with the ringing of the Gregorian New Year’s bells I have decided to rededicate myself to the path, and in doing so I plan to start at square one.  Tabula rasa.  Clean slate.  I know I know nothing.  No assumptions.

So what better place to start than a book on psychic self-defense.  Please don’t misinterpret my perspective as one being based in fear, because I assure you that is not the case, but I am also not naive enough to believe that the only things that can cause me harm are the things I can see with my eyes.  I can’t see bacteria.  I can’t see a virus.  But I know they can both cause significant obstacles for me.  I figure knowing more about how to keep proper spiritual hygiene can’t hurt.

Having read Astral Dynamics sometime ago, specifically in 2010 when I spent 9 third-eye-opening months in Portland, Oregon, I was somewhat familiar with Mr. Bruce’s style of writing and surprisingly still remembered some of his visualization exercises.  I think my favorite thing about this book, and Mr. Bruce in general, is his frank, practical style of writing.  He approaches the “unseen”, or non-ordinary reality, with the pragmatism of someone authoring a DIY manual for dummies.  That is not to say his knowledge is limited in scope, it is a testament to its ease of digestion.

The book opens with a short introduction and immediately begins disseminating knowledge in the form of a Quick Start Guide.  I would say it’s relatively safe to assume that a certain percentage of readers who are drawn do this book, and topic in general, may be experiencing some maleffects and symptoms they wish to address sooner than later.

In Chapter One, Mr. Bruce lays out the framework and familiarizes us with the vocabulary he uses for his interpretation of the other side.  For ease of description he calls all malevolent entities “negs”, “neg” in its singular form.  The book does contain theory, but a large portion of it deals with hands-on exercises, visualizations and, from what I can tell, non-denominational rituals in order to rid oneself of unwanted astral parasites.  And like most reference books worth their salt, The Practical Psychic Self-Defense Handbook does come with an adequate bibliography section and a section dedicated to further references that aren’t in book form.

Overall I am happy I purchased this book, as it is dense enough to warrant keeping in the collection.  So far I have found the most value using it as a reference guide for the techniques and visualizations found within it.  Even if you aren’t experiencing “neg” related effects, it is a fascinating read and the visualizations work well for me.

Please let me know if you have any experience with this book or the techniques found within.
